NFL Positional Rankings

We are a mere 2 weeks away from meaningful NFL football.  The culmination of an offseason worth of studying, following roster moves, watching exhibition contests, prognosticating, etc. will finally bear fruit.

One of the things that makes me a successful bettor is understanding my strengths and weaknesses.  Although I may know far more players than the average NFL fan, I am by no means an expert on positional groupings and their rankings.  I typically rely on other sources to shape my perspective on teams on a granular level before I apply that information to my handicap.  One of the resources I use for positional rankings is ESPN’s Mike Clay who has had a relatively successful track record throughout the years.  I don’t agree with everything Mike says (I’m not sure how SEA has the 4th best RB group or the NYG has the 9th worst receiving corps), but I do think his insight is valuable.

Regarding the chart: Each column can be filtered by clicking the top cell. I have the TAVG (Total average) as the numerical average of OAVG (Offensive Average) and DAVG (Defensive Average).  Mike Clay also ranks the teams based on a weighted average of each position grouping that is labeled as WAVG (Weighted AVG).
